About Run for Charity in Thailand.

About Run for Charity in Thailand.

In 2012 one man had a personal dream to run for charity in Thailand. 999 is a holy number in Buddhism the religion of Thailand and so the idea came about to run 999 km. The number can be divided by 33 km or a half-marathon per day for 30 days. A difficult but acceptable number to run for trained athletes. .

The epic run is a personal dream and a run to raise funds and turn the focus on different charities in Thailand. Such an ordeal is not for everyone and so reduced distances are planned to run concurrently to meet up with the main event. Other runners are invited to participate in the epic or shorter stages.

The run will start at the northernmost part of Thailand to end 30 days later in Pattaya on the east coast of Thailand. The run will take the runner through dry and barren open country, rice fields, thick jungles, over high mountains and overflowing rivers in temperatures from below zero to over 40c, with humidity between 45 and 90% described as very uncomfortable to go out in, not to mention running a half-marathon. The run will end on the east coast where the palm trees meet the sandy beach on the Gulf of Thailand.
